…is a hard, but necessary part of Fall Semester, Junior year.
Of the 6 classes I’m taking, 5 of them require group projects. Many of them require more than one group project. Needless to say, I’m a little bit overwhelmed.
I love working with other people, but I also hate it. I love that I am not responsible for all the work, but I hate that my grade can be determined by other people’s effort (or lack, thereof). I love having the opportunity to see things from another person’s point of view, but I hate having to work around 3-4 other people’s schedules.
It’s cutting into my ability to get paid. My job has flexible hours between 9 and 5, so I go into work between classes. I can get a little over 15 hours a week on a good week. However, multiple group projects require juggling multiple people’s schedules. Needless to say, work is taking a hit. School is my job right now, but it would be nice to have money to take care of everything I need to take care of. I’m still finishing projects at work, but I think I’m going to inquire about doing some work remotely (which I did this summer).
As the semester progresses, I’m getting better at getting what I want from my groups. Initially I was content to sit back and let another person take the reins, but now I’m determined to shape the projects the way I want, so that researching them isn’t so tedious. We just turned in our first Management project, so we’ll see if I’m on the right track, soon enough!
